Megan Bishop, founder of Sunset Lane Design, brings 12 years of design experience in high-end residential and boutique commercial projects, including new construction, renovations, historic preservation, and restoration. With 11 years of construction project management experience at the general contractor level, Megan understands firsthand how valuable an educated interior design professional is to a project’s success.

Megan’s love of design and architecture began on Sunset Lane, the Chicago suburb street where she grew up, surrounded by mid-Victorian homes built before the Great Chicago Fire and early Gothic Revival architecture that still lines her old neighborhood streets today. Some of these homes designed and built by Daniel Burnham, she spent years admiring his work long before she knew his name or understood his significance to American architecture. Those early influences blended with the neighborhood’s post-war and mid-century homes, which filled in over time to create the eclectic, old-growth streetscapes that make the Chicago area so distinctive. That upbringing, surrounded by layers of architectural history, ultimately led her to specialize in historic preservation and restoration in college.

A graduate of Harrington College of Design in Chicago, Megan spent seven years working as a construction project manager and designer for a design-build general contractor before relocating to Gunnison, where she has continued her construction and design career for the past five years. Her traditional education in Interior Architecture and Design equipped her with a lasting skill set that has allowed her to design, draft, project manage, and supervise numerous successful new construction and renovation projects.

While Megan loves being involved in every step of the construction process, she is equally passionate about the multi-layered details of design. From quality millwork and artisan-made furniture, to quality fabrics made to last, and the unique touches that reflect a client’s personality in every room. It’s this attention to detail that separates a builder-grade house from a true high-end home.

Looking for a better work-life balance, Megan came to Gunnison for what was meant to be a short visit and never left. Trading the city for the mountains permanently. Outside of work, she stays just as active: skiing, mountain biking, hiking, paddleboarding, aerial silk, pottery, horseback riding, and whatever DIY project she’s dreamed up next. It’s this same energy, curiosity, hands-on creativity, and appreciation for craftsmanship that she brings to every design she creates.
